Bischofswerda
Bischofswerda (about 12,000 inhabitants) is a large district town in the district of Bautzen on the western edge of Saxon Upper Lusatia. Particularly interesting are the old market, which is quite large for small urban space, with its neo-classical town hall from 1818 , with Paradise Fountain ( in the vernacular : Evabrunnen ) and various houses. 2007, the Old Market Square has been completely redesigned , with a media tower, which constantly shows changing messages. The excavated foundations of the old city hall have been disclosed and surrounded by a glass wall on which are mounted the various information about the city’s history. Three rail brackets indicate the nickname of the city.
Bischofswerda is from a tourist point of view an excellent starting point for many interesting excursions. Hardly any other land in Germany lures with such a varied landscape such as the Saxon Upper Lusatia. In a short time you reach the millennial city of Bautzen, the bizarre and beautiful world of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the Baroque art city of Dresden or the gentle hills of the Lausitz mountains. An extensive network of cycle paths , as well as many recreational attractions make the Lusatia interesting for active vacationers.
